The Cold Lake Ambulance Society (C.L.A.S.) is a non-profit organization that is governed by a Board of Directors in conjunction with a Medical Director.  The Society meets regularly to ensure an optimum level of ambulance service is provided to all its clients.

C.L.A.S. provides a 24 hour Advanced Life Support/Basic Life Support service (ALS/BLS) with 3 fully staffed ambulances on at all times.  The Society utilizes it's well trained, experienced staff to respond to emergencies in either District and/or Industrial sites.

The staffing within the Society consists of the following:

  • EMS Manager
  • 20 Full Time EMT-P's, EMT-A's and EMR's
  • 20 (average) Casual EMT-P's, EMT-A's & EMR's

Staff shifts consist of a 4 and 4 tour.  This means that a crew  would work 4 days and off for 4 days.  Day shifts are a 10 hour set and the night shift is 14 hour set. The third out unit is on a 24 rotation for the crew.  They are required to perform a set of core hours each day and are on call for the remainder of that 24 hour period. Casual staff are allotted a certain number of shifts per 8 week rotational schedule.  They are utilized for shift coverage of additional units, transfers and sick/vacation leave.

The Society ensures the highest level of qualifications within its staff and maintains that all employees meet a minimum standard.  All staff are encouraged to upgrade their skills and qualifications. This basic standard consists of:

  • 12-1 skills (EMT-A's)
  • 12-2 skills (EMT-P's)
  • Minimum Class 4 drivers License
  • International Trauma Life Support
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • North American Professional Drivers
  • Alberta College of Paramedics Registration

Cold Lake Ambulance Society staff members and board of directors take great pride in the many advancements made over the years as it relates to equipment, training and level of service.
